○第五十二帖 蜻蛉
浮舟の入水に薫の君は嘆き哀しみますが、悲嘆のあまり病床に臥した匂宮の様子を見て、浮舟との密通を確信します。偶然に女一の宮を垣間見てその高貴な美しさに惹かれたり、故蜻蛉の宮の姫君が没落した様を見たり、女の宿世の定めなさを観じ、また宇治の姫君達に思いを馳せるのでした。

Kaoru-no-Kimi lamented for the suicide of Ukibune by throwing herself into the water. Seeing the pitiful sight of distressed Nioi-no-Miya, Kaoru-no-Kimi firmly believed that he was secretly in love with Ukibune. Remembering the noble beauty of Onnaichi-no-Miya to which he was attracted and the ruin of deceased Shikbu-no-Kyo-no-Miya, he felt the transience of women's fate. Then, he thought of his daughters in Uji.
